Important Information for High School Student Applicants
Every year, NCEMS admits a limited number of high school students to join our EMT corps. We recommend interested students take the EMT Class during their sophomore year so they can apply to NCEMS for membership at the end of their sophomore year. The minimum age required to become certified as an EMT in the State of Connecticut is 16 years old, but you can take the course and submit an application for membership before turning 16 years old. Learn more about our EMT class.
High school student EMTs have the same riding requirements of 60-hours a month which consists of a regular weeknight shift (6pm-6am) once a week, as well as one weekend shift a month. New Canaan EMS is a volunteer organization, and all EMT positions are unpaid.
